I popped to this Venetian-style bàcaro with my sister for a quick bite before the theatre and can’t wait to come back and make a proper night of it. You can’t book, as seems to be the way now in London, but at 6ish we bagged a seat straight away up at the bar. The menu is made up of (very fairly priced) sharing bites – we had delicious chickpea, spinach and ricotta meatballs, a couple of arancini and a spinach and soft egg pizzette – all of which was top notch – we were only sad not to have room for more. There are now a number of Polpos across London (and one in Brighton) – founded by the handsome Russell Norman - and a couple of reviews have slated it for becoming a ‘chain’ but I say you can’t have too much of a good thing. Polpo Lewisham is coming next.
