Bodrum has a bit of a bad rep, but that's just one part of it. If you drive about 45 minutes out of the airport towards Göltürkbükü, things all get very swanky and you'll find Turkey's version of the French Riviera. The Mandarin Oriental had just opened when I visited with my friend Sophie in October last year (which is off-season, though I don't know why as it's still hot) but already, it was pretty special. If you're a MO regular, you'll be relieved to find all the hotel's trademarks on site; from the Cake Shop, to the three-storey spa and the Michelin star restaurants, all overlooking the Aegean Sea on the aptly named Paradise Bay, dotted with superyachts. The design is all low-rise so it feels very quiet and spacious - the main views are of olive groves, plunge pools and dazzling blue seas. Total relaxation.
